Get ready

Before first use

  1. 1Remove all stickers and labels. Clean the outside and the inner surface of the cooker with a damp cloth.
  2. 2Run the cooker once on the Decarb function with an empty Glass. This burns off any dust that got into the cooker during production or transport. Some odour may develop during this first use.

Every time you use it

  1. 1If needed, shorten the cord by wrapping it.
  2. 2Make sure the inner surface of the Main Body and the bottom of the Glass are dry.
  3. 3Place the Main Body on the Base, with the Base Mark facing you.
  4. 4Plug in the cooker. Wait for the beep and the Point LED. The cooker is now in standby and ready.

It does not matter which function lines up with the Base Mark when you plug in. A function only starts when you turn the Rotary Control.

Decarb and Bio Decarb

  1. 1
Put plant material into the Glass. Do not go above the MAX mark.
  2. 2
Check the Sleeve is in the right position. Cover the Glass with the Dish Lid. The Glass must be properly covered by the Dish Lid to reach the right temperature. If hot air escapes too fast, the sensor will never detect the target temperature.
  3. 3
Place the covered Glass firmly in the Main Body. The bottom of the Glass must touch the probes.
  4. 4
Turn the Rotary Control to line up Decarb or Bio Decarb with the Base Mark. Wait 3 seconds. You hear a beep and the Ring LED starts to pulse. The function is now running.
  5. 5
When heating ends, the Ring LED stops pulsing and the cooker starts cooling. The fan keeps working during this cooling phase. You can now take the Glass out and let it cool at room temperature, or wait for the cooker to finish cooling.
  6. 6
When the heating and cooling cycle is complete, the cooker beeps. Turn the Rotary Control to OFF.

Tips

  • Plant material that was prepared or stored differently has a different moisture content. It needs a different time to reach the right temperature.
  • If the plant material is fresh or very moist, water vapour may condense on and around the Filter Disc during decarboxylation. You can still go on to the Oil functions without drying the plant material or the Glass. The water evaporates during the Oil cycle.
  • For best results, break large pieces of plant material into smaller parts first.

The temperature control is precise, so a longer run does not harm the plant material. To adjust something during heating: turn the Rotary Control to OFF, let the Glass cool to a safe temperature, make the adjustment, put the Glass back and start the Decarb function again.

Oil and Bio Oil

  1. 1
Add liquid oil or cooking butter to the Glass with the decarboxylated plant material. The total of oil and plant material must not go above the MAX mark.
  2. 2
Cover the Glass properly with the Dish Lid. Check the bottom of the Glass is dry and the Sleeve is in the right position.
  3. 3
Place the covered Glass firmly in the Main Body. The bottom of the Glass must touch the probes.
  4. 4
Turn the Rotary Control to line up Oil or Bio Oil with the Base Mark.

The temperature control is precise, so a longer infusion does not harm the plant material. To adjust something during heating: turn the Rotary Control to OFF, let the Glass cool to a safe temperature, make the adjustment, put the Glass back and start the Oil function again.

Filter the oil

Only filter when the Glass is out of the Main Body and has cooled to a safe temperature.

  1. 1
Have a storage container ready with an opening wider than the Spout.
  2. 2
Remove the Dish Lid and fit the Filter Set on the Glass.
  3. 3
With one hand, hold the Glass and press the Support Lid firmly onto it. Turn the Glass upside down. With the other hand, press the Finger Grip to squeeze the oil out into the container.

Tip: if the plant material is very finely ground, fit a piece of filter mesh before step 3. Put the mesh on the Spout and secure it with the Lock Ball.

Collect the last of the oil

  1. 1
After filtering, take off the Filter Set. Add warm water until all the plant material is under water and shake the Glass gently. Put the Glass on a stable surface and let it rest until the oil forms a clear layer on top of the water.
  2. 2
Put the Filter Set back on the Glass. Then attach the Pipette to the Spout with the Lock Ball.
  3. 3
Press the Filter Disc down slowly until oil enters the Pipette. Close the top of the Pipette with your thumb, lift it off, and release the oil into a container. Repeat until all the oil is collected.

Tip: if water gets into the Pipette, carefully draw it out from the bottom opening with a piece of kitchen paper.

Evaporation

Evaporation runs at max. 102 °C / 215.6 °F. Evaporation speed: 50 ml/hour.

Warning

Read these warnings first.

Toxic hazard

  • Do NOT use non-food-grade ethanol with the Evaporation function. It may contain highly toxic impurities.
  • Use ONLY food-grade, non-denatured ethanol.

Fire hazard: high volume or high proof ethanol can be highly flammable.

  • Do not use the Evaporation function in a small, closed space. The room must be larger than 50 m³, with air exchange between indoors and outdoors.
  • Keep the cooker at least 5 m from any open flame during Evaporation.

Tip: for best results, use food-grade, non-denatured ethanol with no less than 95% ethanol by volume (190 proof or more).

  1. 1
Pour the infused food-grade ethanol into the Glass. Do not go above the MAX mark.
  2. 2
Place the Glass firmly in the Main Body. The bottom of the Glass must be dry and touch the probes.
  3. 3
Fit the short end of the Condenser onto the Spout of the Filter Set. Then close the Glass with the Filter Set.
  4. 4
Stand a second, empty Glass next to the cooker, under the long end of the Condenser. The ethanol collects there as it cools.
  5. 5
Turn the Rotary Control to line up Evaporation with the Base Mark. Wait 3 seconds. You hear a beep and the Ring LED starts to pulse. Evaporation is now running.
  6. 6
Turn the Rotary Control to OFF once the amount of ethanol you want has evaporated. Then remove the Glass from the Main Body.

To adjust something during the cycle: turn the Rotary Control to OFF, let the Glass cool first, make the adjustment, then start again from step 5.

Tips

  • Evaporation stops by itself when the contents reach 102 °C / 215.6 °F. There is no risk of burning the herbal extract.
  • The Dish Lid has a non-stick, food-grade silicone coating. If all the ethanol evaporates and the extract sticks to the bottom of the Glass:
    1. add a little ethanol back into the extract;
    2. stir until the extract dissolves in it;
    3. pour the diluted extract into the Dish Lid;
    4. let the added ethanol evaporate at room temperature;
    5. lift the extract easily off the non-stick Dish Lid.

Cleaning

  1. 1
Rinse first with warm water to remove residue.
  2. 2
Before washing, take the Filter Disc out of the Filter Funnel.
  3. 3
Use the wool Brush for the narrow parts of the Filter Set.
Glass
The Glass is dishwasher safe. Rinse first, then wash it like a normal glass.
Filter Set
The Filter Set is dishwasher safe. Before washing, take the Filter Disc out of the Filter Funnel. Do not lay the pipe and the Pipette flat, as with other kitchen tools.
By hand
Rinse with warm water, then a non-abrasive washing-up liquid. No metal sponges, scrapers, chlorine, ammonia or bleach.
Warning

Electric shock hazard: always unplug the cooker before cleaning the Main Body.

Burns hazard: always let the appliance and its parts cool down before cleaning.
